Prop Simon McIntyre returned to Sale Sharks in July 2021, ten years after the academy graduate left to join Wasps.
The Manchester-born front-rower played his early rugby at Broughton Park prior to joining Sale’s academy in 2009, from where he made six senior appearances for the Sharks.
McIntyre was also capped by England at Under 18 level during this time.
Before signing for Wasps, McIntyre was primarily a tighthead, and while he retains the ability to anchor the scrum from number three, his career blossomed after he made the switch to loosehead.
In addition to his solid set-piece skills, McIntyre is extremely mobile in the loose where he combines a useful turn of pace with good footwork.
Simon re-signed for the Sharks on a one-year deal ahead of the 2021/22 season. After putting pen to paper, he said: “It’s an exciting time for me, especially to be returning to my hometown club.
“When I decided to re-sign for Sale, I knew it would be a challenge with the quality of the players in the squad here, but it’s a challenge I am relishing and I’m hungry to get stuck in with the boys.
“Speaking with Alex (Sanderson, Sharks Director of Rugby), his plans for the future of the club were genuinely compelling and I can’t wait to test myself in such a high-performance environment!”
