Leeds-born full back Joe Carpenter began his rugby journey at West Park Leeds RUFC at the age of seven, before joining Yorkshire Carnegie’s academy at 15 and then moving on to Sale Sharks in 2020.
Sharks legend and club non-exec director Jason Robinson was his hero growing up and he credits Graham Chadwick and Ronnie Kelly at West Park, Mr Ryder, Mr Bedford at Woodhouse Grove as well as Danny Wild, Scott Barrow, Steve Salvin at Carnegie for giving him a good understanding of the game.
An elusive runner with exceptional pace, Joe is widely regarded as one of the most exciting academy prospects in the country.
He has played age grade rugby for England alongside a number of Sharks current academy crop including Tom Curtis, Tom Roebuck and Raffi Quirke.
Injury ruled him out of England U18s tour of South Africa in 2018, but he was later selected for the U18 Six Nations Festival in April 2019.
Joe made his first team debut for Sale Sharks in the Heineken Champions Cup fixture against La Rochelle in January, 2020.
