Head Start

The Sale Sharks Foundation’s Free Inclusive Physical Activity Programme

The Sale Sharks Foundation is committed to improving the wellbeing of communities across the North West, and our Head Start programme is a shining example of that. Head Start is a free-to-access, inclusive physical activity programme designed to promote positive mental health through safe, structured, and consistent exercise.

What is Head Start?

This programme offers participants a welcoming and supportive environment to engage in regular physical activity, helping to improve both physical fitness and mental wellbeing. With a focus on inclusivity, the sessions are tailored to be accessible to all, regardless of ability or background.

Each one-hour session includes:

  • A warm-up to prepare the body and mind
  • Engaging and inclusive fitness or sport activities suitable for all participants
  • Health and wellbeing workshops to encourage positive mental health habits
  • A social space for participants to connect and support each other

Where is Head Start Available?

The programme is currently running across Manchester, Salford, and Trafford, bringing much-needed opportunities for free, structured exercise and mental health support to local communities.
