Sharks sign hooker McElroy

Sale Sharks have signed former Saracens, Leinster and Connacht hooker Tadgh McElroy on a deal until the end of the 24/25 season.

The 27-year-old had joined Ulster on a short-term deal in September but he will now join up with Alex Sanderson’s squad ahead of the round six trip to Bath.

Sharks were left short in the hooker department after an England call-up for Luke Cowan-Dickie and an injury to Tommy Taylor.

It left Ethan Caine as the only senior hooker, but the Sharks Director of Rugby says McElroy can be more than a short-term fix.

Alex said: “Tadgh is someone I know from my time at Saracens, so I know how good he is. He’s fantastic in the set-piece and he was very well regarded in the Ireland set-up. This move works really well for both parties.

“He’s moved around a few clubs in the past few years but he’s really keen to put down some roots and while this is a deal is until the end of the season, we’d love to give Tadgh the chance to find a new home longer term.

“I’m really excited to see him go and I think he can make a big contribution.”
