Sharks Community Trust is excited to announce the launch of a new Alternative Education Provision programme at Eccles Rugby Club in Salford that combines sport, education and life skills to create some inspiring and exciting new specialist education provision for vulnerable and disengaged young people in Salford.
The Trust’s new Sharks On Track Alternative Provision programme, which will start in September, will deliver inspiring, imaginative and fun learning to around 15 children aged 11 to 16 years old in Salford. The programme is aimed at young people who may have struggled to engage with mainstream education and who need more specialised provision, inspiring them to engage in education and achieve essential qualifications.
The programme will see Sharks Community Trust Tutors use sport to inspire engagement and aspiration, building resilience and self esteem through a curriculum that provides the following elements through a timetable which is flexible to meet the needs of every child:
- Level 1 and 2 Certificate in Employability Skills
- English and Maths Functional Skills and GCSE
- Sports Leadership Award
- Sport, enrichment and engagement activities
- Mental resilience and life skill activities
The project aims to build on the innovative work achieved in Salford by its Advantage programme for NEET and disadvantaged 16-19 year olds, reducing the education inequality gap that exists for many children from disadvantaged communities, which has been exacerbated by school closures during the pandemic.
