Developing future sharks is tough work. We’ll give you all the support you need.
Our Coach Development Plan is designed by Sale Sharks’ Academy, Sports Science and Performance Analysis staff and is delivered in conjunction with Lancashire and Cheshire RFU and England Rugby, to support the professional development of coaches who are delivering sessions to young players within the Player Development Pathway. Being a better person is our club philosophy, so having our Coach Development Plan run alongside our Player Development Pathway means our Academy environment is always anchored to growth mindset.
Coach development sessions are held at our high-performance training centre in Carrington. Part of being a Shark is being fearless; we challenge traditional coaching beliefs and offer different perspectives on training and player support methods, to ensure there is a forward-thinking and safe talent development environment for all players within the Player Development Pathway. Seminar evenings hosted by Sale Sharks Academy coaches and a first team coaches such as Alex Sanderson (DoR) or Paul Deacon (Attack Coach), cover a range of topics:
Seminars are supported through the season with five coaching observation sessions, creating an opportunity to watch our Sharks experts do what they do best. Personal development plans are designed to enhance skills, share new ideas and increase knowledge of how to develop our Sharks DNA within players. There is a central resource platform for coaches which includes all the information needed to deliver sessions within the programme, which includes Sharks specific resources, international programme information, literature to assist both player and coach development and a discussion forum for sharing ideas.
Using our specifically designed coach mentoring process we help our coaches to improve their level of performance and understanding of the coaching process through regular session reviews and data feedback. This means coaches can begin to mentor and develop our next generation of coaches, before they are delivering within the Player Development Pathway.
Sharks qualified coaches can be found circling the North-West, in six development hubs dedicated to developing the best young players across our region.
