Si McIntyre stays at his boyhood club

Sale Sharks prop Si McIntyre has signed a new one-year contract to stay at his boyhood club for the 2025/26 season.

Manchester-born Si, 34, played his junior rugby at Broughton Park before joining the Sharks Academy in 2009.

He made six senior appearances for the club before leaving for Wasps in 2011, and went on to play 184 times in black and gold before returning north in 2021.

This season loosehead Si has featured 18 times for Alex Sanderson’s side, starting eight times including the Champions Cup last 16 clash with Toulouse.

Alex said: “Si showed how good he still is against Toulouse. He was dominating in the scrum and smashing people in the loose and he showed he’s got plenty left in him.

“He’s a local lad who loves the club, he came through the academy, and while he is still performing as well as he is, we’ll keep signing him.”

Si said: “I spent a long time away from the club but since I came back I’ve really enjoyed it. I love the day to day at the club, I’m playing with lads I grew up with, and I love the ambition that we all have to win trophies.

“Professional sport is about winning and this is where I want to do it. We’ve still got work to do but I believe we have the team to win.

“That’s what keeps me motivated to want to keep playing.”
