WINGER REED SIGNS ON FOR THREE MORE YEARS

Sale Sharks’ Scottish international winger Arron Reed has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new three-year contract.

The homegrown 25-year-old joined the Sharks Academy when he was 15 and has gone on to make more than 120 appearances, scoring 36 tries.

Arron played his junior rugby at Tarleton and then Preston Grasshoppers before signing his first professional contract in 2017. He made his Sharks debut later that season against French giants Toulouse in the Challenge Cup.

Last season he enjoyed his most successful season yet scoring-wise, bagging eight tries and earning his first international call up for Scotland ahead of the 2024 Six Nations.

Arron didn’t feature in that tournament, but his first international appearance for his country did come later that year after he was called into the Scotland squad for the Skyscanner Americas tour.

He and fellow Shark Gus Warr both scored twice as Gregor Townsend’s side beat Canada 73-12 in Ottawa, and he played a key role in this season’s Autumn International Series win against Portugal, once again scoring twice. Earlier this month he received a call-up to Scotland’s Six Nations squad.

Arron said: “The club has so much potential to win the biggest trophies and I want to be a big part of that. Doing that with lads I class as my best mates would be so special and I don’t think I could ever have that feeling anywhere else.

“Every day I go into training and I just love it. I’m playing and training with mates who I went to school with and it’s really hard to describe just how good that is. I don’t think many players have that opportunity.

“I grew up in the North West and I watched Sale as a kid and every time I put on that shirt it means so much to me. It was an easy decision to stay.”

Sharks Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson said: “Reedy has so much positive energy and that impacts not just his performances, but those of his teammates too. He does everything at high speed, with high energy and he’s a brilliant member of the group on and off the pitch.

“Success is never linear with any player and everyone has challenges and obstacles. Reedy has had his fair share, but he is continually improving and learning his craft and he has so much potential that’s still unrealised. Great things take time, and he is a really great thing.

“It tells you a lot about the relationships he has with his mates here, and how happy he is in this environment, that he wants to stay here when there might be temptation to go and play elsewhere to try and get more international caps. I want him to be able to achieve his international ambitions here.

“We’re so happy he’s staying and I’m so excited to see how he’s going to develop.”
