THE OPPORTUNITY:
This is a rare opportunity for a highly driven professional from an elite sporting environment to push the boundaries of physical performance. This will be a leading and hands-on role, operating as part of our multi-disciplinary team in driving the performance and outcomes of our first team players. The successful applicant will have proven experience in a Strength and Conditioning role and be ready to take on a senior role in our world-class team.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Lead the performance teams processes and return to performance program in close conjunction with the medical team
• Lead the speed program for the team, ensuring players’ potential is maximized.
• Lead on developing the strength and power capabilities for a group of players, likely a positional group.
• Collaborate with coaches, S&C, sport science, nutrition and medical staff to ensure the squad and individuals are catered for and coached to be the best possible rugby players.
• Assist with on-pitch delivery of warm-ups, with recovery, mobility, nutrition and other holistic areas of physical health.
• Work with the S&C team and Head of Athletic Performance on player status, wellness and rehabilitation
• Involvement in discussions on physical challenges e.g. rotation, red flag players, national team collaboration etc.
• Lead on the provision of strength and power delivery in gym, including aspects of performance testing (Countermovement Jump, Isometric Testing) and data collection (load-velocity data)
• Establish a well-respected relationship with the players, acting as a motivational gym and pitch side presence – assessing and delivering advice to enhance performance
• To lead in the role with energy, passion and have a positive influence on staff and players.
• Lead and develop the S&C intern program at Sale Sharks
• Collect, store, analyse and share physical data required in accordance to club and international requirements.
• Self-drive and discuss a continual professional development plan to ensure progress in areas of best interest to yourself and the club.
• Improve the squad’s physical capability, and maximize availability for executing the Sale Sharks game plan
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL:
• Significant experience within a high-performance environment and a good understanding of the elite sporting pathway
• Excellent knowledge and ability to construct strength, speed / change of direction and energy system-based training schedules, with appropriate diagnostics and monitoring included
• Good organisational skills as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a inter-disciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with players and staff
• Initiative, adaptability and efficiency in finding ways to challenge and stimulate players in their pursuit of excellence.
• Ability to obtain UKSCA Accreditation
DESIRABLE:
• High level of knowledge around the physical, psychological, technical (position specific), and tactical (style of play) demands associated with Rugby
