Sale Sharks Foundation are looking to recruit a Health and Wellbeing Coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination, development, delivery and monitoring of health and wellbeing programmes.

Our health and wellbeing projects engage with a wide range of communities, across all ages and abilities. As part of the Community Inclusion team for Sale Sharks Foundation, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing projects. This will include Shark Forces a project designed to support ex-service and serving personnel, Head Start our mental wellbeing and physical activity project, whilst also supporting and delivering our school-based health and wellbeing programmes such as Try2Connect & Cargill Cares.

The role will have a key emphasis on leading the growth and development of our veteran’s community offer Shark Forces.

Sharks Forces is designed to support ex-service and serving personnel, enhancing their mental and emotional wellbeing through gentle exercise opportunities, social engagement and an employability hub that helps veterans’ transition back into the workforce. The role also includes managing the Health and Wellbeing Development Officer and overseeing other health and wellbeing initiatives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Coordinating and developing the Foundations Health and Wellbeing funded programmes in the North West, working closely with the Community Inclusion Lead. Aspects of the role include:

Main Programme Development and Delivery – Sharks Forces:

• Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of Sharks Forces, a comprehensive wellbeing programme that supports ex-service and serving personnel.
• Deliver physical activities, such as such as walking groups, low-impact fitness sessions and walking/touch rugby sessions, to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and social engagement.
• Plan and deliver social engagement sessions, including group discussions, workshops, and community-building activities to promote mental and emotional wellbeing.
• Oversee the development and delivery of Sharks Forces’ Employability Hub, which supports ex-service men and women in building the skills, confidence, and connections needed to re-enter the workforce. This includes:
o Partnering with local employers, job training services, and educational institutions to create pathways into employment.
o Providing workshops, one-on-one coaching, and job placement assistance for veterans.
o Offering CV writing support, interview preparation, and guidance on job search strategies.

Programme Coordination, Development and Delivery:

• Oversee and manage day to day activities of additional health and wellbeing initiatives, ensuring they meet funding requirements and KPIs.
• Explore new opportunities, such as developing offers around positive Health and Wellbeing for educational and corporate partners.
• Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate the delivery of services, including job training, physical activity, and social support programmes.
• Supporting the development and expansion of the Foundations Health and Wellbeing projects across the Community Inclusion team and other departments, where relevant.
• Work with the wider community inclusion team to support the delivery of programmes where required, including our schools provision, Alternative Provision offer, and holiday activity programmes.
• Support with the delivery of Head Start, consisting of a low impact physical activity programme, where required.
• Support the delivery of our positive health & wellbeing interventions at locations such as schools, colleges, grassroot rugby clubs and community hubs.
• Maintain and develop new relationships with internal and external partner organisations to engage new audiences.
• Work with the Community Inclusion Lead and funding consultants to identify and apply for funding opportunities.
• To input and feedback around Health & Wellbeing programmes to further develop the strategic direction of the programme and expanding the current offering.
• Delivering sessions in a plan-do-review model to strive to develop them to be current and specific to target audience’s needs.

Relationship Management:

• To help create and establish strong relationships with stakeholders to develop links across our health and wellbeing programme with a particular focus on building positive relations with veteran charities and referral pathways. 
• Engage with veterans’ organisations, military support services, local businesses, and educational partners to support the Sharks Forces programme and Employability Hub.
• Serve as the main point of contact for participants, providing support and guidance, especially as they navigate the transition back to civilian employment.
• Build relationships with employers and community organisations to create job placement opportunities and increase awareness of the employability support offered through Sharks Forces.
• To work with partner organisations in order to develop relationships for project delivery, development and creating a financially sustainable delivery model.
• Sustainably develop the Foundations Health and Wellbeing interventions within community hubs, schools, colleges, grassroot rugby clubs.
• Liaise with internal and external partners in various parts of the role, including managing referrals and signposting to other agencies.
• To work with our partner organisations to support Sale Sharks Foundation achieve successful, high impact projects to achieve project outcomes and outputs.

Line Management:

• Provide line management to the Health and Wellbeing Development Officer, ensuring the effective delivery of Health and Wellbeing initiatives.
• Oversee the Development Officer’s work, ensuring high standards of service and participant support, keeping on track with objectives as outlined in PDRs.
• Encourage staff development through mentoring, training, and performance feedback, working with Community Inclusion Lead where appropriate.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

• Contribute to the preparation and delivery of monthly, annual reports and key performance indicator reports. This includes the use of regular registers, monitoring and evaluations tools and ensuring information is uploaded to relevant platforms in a timely manner. 
• Work towards agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), keeping accurate records and feedback linked to progress.
• Collate media and case studies to measure the impact of projects for funders and raise awareness of the project and work of Sale Sharks Foundation.
• Ensure all administration elements of projects and sessions delivered including keeping accurate records, data collection are updated.
• Use participant feedback and local insight and data to refine and enhance programme offerings.
• Continuously evaluates the success and standards of their work and that of others, through rigorous self and departmental reflection and analysis. This includes creating a CPD plan and working towards agreed PDR objectives.
• Undertake any other duties required in line with the responsibilities of the post.

Promotion and Awareness:

• Promote the Sharks Forces programme and Employability Hub through outreach to potential participants, local employers, and community partners.
• Create promotional materials that highlight the benefits of Sharks Forces, including its health, social, and employment support services.
• Support with wider promotional needs of the Community Inclusion team.
Health and Safety Compliance
• Ensure the health and safety of all participants taking part in Sale Sharks Foundations activities. This includes completing risk assessments, developing procedures, gathering compliance documents from third party providers, and complying with all aspects of Sale Sharks Foundations procedures and safeguarding policies and practices.

Person Specification

Qualifications • A degree level qualification in a relevant subject
• A current and accredited Level 2 sports coaching qualification (or
• equivalent)
• A current and accredited Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification (or
• equivalent)
• Mental Health certification (desirable)
Experience and Skills • Previous experience in working in sport/community development environment.
• Previous experience of delivering activity to vulnerable adults from diverse backgrounds, with the ability to adapt delivery to suit their needs in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Prior experience of developing and delivering educational/workshop content.
• Previous experience of delivering sport/physical activity sessions.
• Experience of development and delivery of mental wellbeing programme
• Proven success at building excellent working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, and as part of a wider team.
• Successful track record of developing and managing projects with other partners to achieve successful outcomes.
• Previous experience of publicity/promotion of initiatives and events.
• Experience of producing monitoring and evaluation reports and providing evidence of impact to project partners.
• Previous experience of managing staff.
• Evidence of the ability to develop and manage project budgets.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 packages.
• High attention to detail including good use of grammar and spelling.
