CARPENTER SIGNS NEW SHARKS DEAL

Sale Sharks full-back Joe Carpenter has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new three-year contract.

The talented 22-year-old, who began his rugby journey at West Park Leeds RUFC at the age of seven, joined Sale Sharks from Yorkshire Carnegie’s academy in 2020.

He made his first team debut for Sale in the Heineken Champions Cup in January, 2020, but his big breakthrough came when he scored on his Premiership debut against Exeter Chiefs in October 2022.

Joe, who has represented England at U18 and U20s level, has gone on to make 40 first team appearances, scoring 11 tries.

Joe said: “I’m really happy to have signed a new contract at Sale.

“Making my Premiership debut and then playing in the final at Twickenham with some of my best mates last season was brilliant and I’m really excited to see what this group can achieve together in the future.

“I love the environment at Sale and I can only see good times ahead for the club. I’ve got no doubt that with so many young, northern lads and experienced guys like George Ford, we’re going to be competing for all the big prizes and I really want to be a part of that.

“It’s a great feeling to know that Alex sees me as a big part of his plans going forward too.”

Sharks Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson said: “Joe is a mercurial, prodigious talent and we’re very lucky to have him.

“He’s as grounded as he is good, and his meteoric rise last season from Sale FC to a Premiership final is just the start for him. I’ve got no doubt he’ll go on to international honours because he has the world at his feet.

“He’s fearless in the sky and seems to have the ability to beat the first defender every time he gets the ball. He rises to every challenge and plays with a brain like a 35-year-old. He’s already a leader for us but he’s definitely future captain material.”
