Match Report – Sale Sharks Women 33 – 21 DMP

It was the perfect start to the Allianz Premier 15s season for Sharks Women after a bonus point win against DMP Sharks. the final score being 31 – 22. Georgie Perris-Redding returns to co-captain the side to a 31-22 victory, linking up with her co-captain Lauren Delany on her return from international duty.

Sharks started the game on the front foot in the opening ten minutes, and after 12 months out due to an ACL injury Scarlett Fielding finds a break in the DMP line to get the scoreboard rolling for the Sharks. Securing this early try gave the Sharks huge momentum in attack allowing Mhairi Grieve to get over the line to secure Sharks second try of the game.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half DMP came back fighting, testing the Sharks’ defence, and after winning a couple of penalties, DMP were rewarded with their first try of the game just before the break.

The Sharks looked to build up the scoreboard in the second half, running hard lines to break the DMP defence wall creating opportunities for both Alycia Washington and Vicky A Irwin to get on the scoresheet. With Sharks having a steady lead they look to play a creative counter with the long pass but DMP intercepted the attempt and charged over for their second try of the match.

With five minutes to go, and the bonus point win lurking, Sharks looked to finish the game on a high with another try. As Sharks close on the 22 after a series of pick and go’s, Jess Taylor-Roberts saw space out wide to send Courtney Pursglove over the line to secure Sharks first bonus point win of the season, and bag Courtney a try on her Allianz Premier 15’s debut.

Catching up with Captain Georgie after the game she said ‘We’ve been working hard all week and we achieved what wanted, it was hard at times, but we pulled through together. We’ve such a young talented player pool coming through, they are bringing a new wave of energy and It’s been amazing to work with them. From that performance we know we can be better and that’s good because we’ve got things to work on to come back stronger next week”.
