Impressive Sale win successive northern derby with disciplined performance.
Sale got off to an explosive start with early relentless pressure soon paying off, as Lisa Neumann drove through the middle for her third try of the season. Katy Daley-Mclean added the extras. DMP looked to mount a series of attacks of their own, but the Sale defence stayed strong in the frantic opening stages of the game.
The away side reduced the deficit to four points with Rosie Blount slotting a penalty in between the sticks after 20 minutes of play. Sale responded with a brilliant break from Lauren Delany down the right-hand side and the Irish international look set for another eye catching try in the corner, however DMP covered well, and were able to stop Delany before the line.
Sale continued to push for their second try with a well worked move looking to Delany again, but the move was unfortunately halted due to a forward pass. The home side did get the breathing space they were searching for moments later though, with Jess Roberts powering over. Daley-Mclean missed the conversion.
The Sharks found time for another try before the break with Aisha Abu Marzouq getting over and KDM adding the extras.
The home side began the second half looking to add more points on the board and soon did as Lisa Neumann set Jodie Ounsley clear through to go over unchallenged on her home debut. KDM conversion steered just wide of the posts.
A textbook cross field kick from Daley-Mclean found Lisa Neumann who took it well to go over for her second try of the day. Daley Mclean added the extras to put the Sharks 31-3 ahead with 10 minutes to play. The score-line remained unchanged and the Sharks recorded a double over their northern rivals with an impressive and disciplined performance.
The Sharks travel to Wasps next Saturday.
