Paul Deacon has held his weekly press conference ahead of #YourSharks trip to Gloucester this weekend. Below salesharks.com have rounded up the key talking points:
On the squad’s reaction to Wasps loss:
“We had an honest review yesterday and the lads had a lot of input into it, we spoke about areas where we need to get better. Specifically reacting to adversity and not dwelling on our errors and mistakes. We reviewed the game a little bit differently this week. I think it’s always important to mix things up a bit, because when you lose a game there’s always an opportunity to learn and get better. We’ve got to learn our lessons from the Wasps game and hopefully implement them this weekend, It’s not a lack of camaraderie or anything like that we just need to improve on a few things on the pitch.”
How difficult is it to be confident in what you’re doing after three defeats?
“I will always question what I’m doing whether we win or lose, we can always get better in my opinion. I’m confident in the way that I am trying to do things and I think it’s the right way to go. A win would be nice this weekend, but we have to focus on our performance first. Wins don’t just miraculously appear from nowhere; we’ve got to stay in the moment during games and string good phases of play back-to-back and put pressure on our opposition.
I’ve learned a lot about myself recently and I certainly don’t sleep as much as I used too! I’m trying to do the right thing all the time and I won’t always get it right, but I’m doing everything I can to keep the boys up and positive as well as improving them!”
On the challenges Gloucester will bring this weekend:
“Gloucester are a tough team and will be hard to beat this weekend. We want to pride ourselves on being a hard team to beat, and we haven’t been too far off with our results recently but Gloucester are a good side who do all the basics well so we will need to be on the ball to get a result at Kingsholm.”
