South African Cobus Wiese has been selected on the bench after securing a work permit and training with the team at the new Sale Sharks high-performance centre in Carrington.
At 6ft 6in he can operate at either lock or flanker and will be a timely addition to the squad after Lood de Jager and Tom Curry sustained knocks during the bonus-point victory over Leicester last Saturday.
Cobus has previously played at the AJ Bell Stadium after featuring in the U-20 World Cup for South Africa where they reached the semi-final before losing out to eventual winners England.
