Sale Sharks Women sign Wales International Gwenllian Pyrs

Sale Sharks is pleased to announce a further addition to their rapidly expanding women’s squad, as Wales International Gwenllian Pyrs puts pen to paper on a deal to join the Sharks high performance set up ahead of the upcoming Premier 15s season.

Pyrs will join the Sharks Women as they embark on their first season in the Premier 15s with the international prop adding more valuable experience to the Sale front row. At just 22-years-old Gwenllian has already plied her trade in both Wales and the Premier 15s and during her short career has already made appearances for RGC, Caernarfon RFC and most recently for Firwood Waterloo in England’s top-flight.

An experienced scrummager born in North Wales, Pyrs has already won a total of 14 caps for her country and was excited about the opportunity in front of her with the Sharks, commenting, “I am grateful for the opportunity to become a part of the high performance environment Sale have developed. I can’t wait to be playing competitive rugby regularly at the highest level as it will only improve my skillset and all-round performance. I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my rugby career with Sale Sharks Women as the club have built such an exciting squad already and the ambition to develop is obvious for everyone to see.”

Adding yet another experienced player to his ranks, Head of Women’s Rugby Darren Lamon was pleased to be able bolster his squad further in an integral position. He said: “I’m sure Gwen will be a fantastic asset to us at Sale and can’t wait for her to link up with the rest of the squad when we return to Stage 1 training in the near future. Gwen is a fantastic scrummager and is extremely mobile around the pitch so I feel she will complement us well. What we are looking for when selecting players to join us on our journey here at Sale is a good awareness of the game, physical durability and an incredibly high level of core and positional skill. I feel Gwen ticks all these boxes and her maturation as a prop will only come with time and experience. I honestly think she will just keep getting better and better so it’s great to be able to call her one of our own.”
