Sale Sharks Women are excited to confirm 6 further signings ahead of debut season in the Premier 15s.
This continues the team’s ambitious recruitment drive and follows the announcements of international signings Katy Daley-Mclean, Mhaira Grieve, Molly Kelly and Jess Wooden as well as Ulster centre Vicky Irwin and England U20 centre Laura Perrin.
The new signings are Beth Stafford, Carys Hall, Scarlett Fielding, Freya Hellin, Alicia Calton and Georgie Perris–Redding.
Beth Stafford represented Barbarians Women vs Wales last season, Beth has the athletic qualities to play as a number 8 or second row, expanding the coaching team’s options heading into the new season. Beth, 26, has previously represented Firwood Waterloo, RGC and Birkenhead Panthers.
Carys Hall is quality back three player and has proven her worth at Firwood Waterloo for a number of seasons, giving the squad further options in the backline. Carys, 27, is currently a teacher in Salford.
Scarlett Fielding has represented England U18s and plays hooker. Scarlett, 19, came through the mini & junior section at Caldy Rugby Club before going on to play in the Tyrrells Premier 15s for Firwood Waterloo and brings plenty of experience to the team despite her young age.
Freya Hellin is a powerful and skillful back-row forward who can also play hooker. Freya, 20, is signing from Firwood Waterloo and has previously played for The University of Central Lancashire. Freya is returning from injury and is determined to make a big impression in the squad.
Alicia Calton is a talented centre, who has a strong defensive game and huge potential. Alicia, 20, is currently studying at Manchester Metropolitan University and came through the ranks at Eccles Rugby Club.
Georgie Perris–Redding signs from Sale 1861 Women and is already a member of the Sharks Family, as she works for the Sharks Community Trust. Georgie, who has Premier 15s experience with Firwood Waterloo and Worcester Women, is a versatile player who has the speed and awareness to play in a variety of positions, although is looking to focus on playing in the back-row. Georgie, 23, has previously played for Crewe & Nantwich Rugby Club and has also represented England Touch at U18 level.
Commenting on the announcement, Head of Women’s Rugby Darren Lamon says all six players can make significant contributions to the squad ahead of the new season.
“Finding and developing talent is a big part of building a successful squad. In Beth, Freya, Scarlett, Carys, Alicia and Georgie we have secured the signings of six very talented and promising rugby players who either all live, work and/or study in the North West. This is important to us as a club and will help shape our identity for the future to have a core of North West players. Each player has unique skillsets and a desire to improve which will enhance our squad for next season and beyond.
We’re all looking forward to welcoming them to Sale Sharks and integrating them into our new playing squad when preseason gets underway”
