Local bio-industrial group Cargill, based in Trafford Park, began working with Sharks Community Trust on the Eat Well Play Safe project as part of their CSR initiative, Cargill Cares.
Eat Well Play Safe works with over 300 children each year within schools in the Trafford and Salford boroughs to deliver healthy eating messages. The six-week project helps children improve their understanding and knowledge of how to make better food choices to increase their healthy food intake and the importance of regular exercise through weekly Tag Rugby sessions.
These sessions are popular with all of the children and they all agree that the best bit of the project is week six when they get to make their own healthy sandwiches in school with the Trust coaches.
Jo Edwards, Schools Coordinator, Sharks Community Trust quotes,
“We’re incredibly grateful to Cargill, their support with this vital project ensures that children understand food choices and how to make the best choices for them. We are confident that the work we deliver will have a significant impact on many young people within the communities of Trafford and Salford.”
Des Howlett, Education Manager, Sharks Community Trust, said:
“It’s fantastic to see a large local company like Cargill give back to the local community in such an effective manner. For Sharks Community Trust, partnering up with Cargill to deliver the ‘Eat Well Play Safe’ project is a no brainer as healthy eating and exercise are the basis of success as Sale Sharks. The project is designed to tackle a relevant and current challenge that faces many young people nationally and wider and we are delighted with the enjoyment the children take from it.”
Sharks Community Trust are actively looking for additional schools to take part in the project, if you know a school in either Trafford or Salford who would be interested in taking part, then please contact community@salesharks.com
